Montreat, NC – Evangelia Martha Griffin (nรฉe Cotsana), 75, of Montreat, North Carolina, passed away on March 10, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born and raised in Concord, New Hampshire, Martha lived a life marked by strength, generosity, and a deep love for family and community. She graduated from Concord High School in 1968 and went on to earn degrees in Exceptional Childhood Education at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida.
Martha was a passionate educator, devoting 39 years of exemplary teaching and mentorship to students in Florida and North Carolina. Known for her impeccable style, strong character, and gift for bringing people together, she left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Martha is predeceased by her parents, James and Mersina Cotsana, and by extended family members Robert and Sara Branch and their son, Jonathan Branch. She is survived by her loving husband, James Griffin; their cherished daughter, Kathleen Griffin; her brother, James Cotsana; her sisters, Tracy Coen (nรฉe Branch), and Jane Branch; and many dear nieces and nephews.
A public memorial service will be held at Black Mountain Presbyterian Church, 117 Montreat Road, Black Mountain, NC 28711, at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2026, with a private reception to follow.
