License to carry, not to vote
Our intrepid GOP legislature is advancing HB 323 to prohibit the use of college-issued photo IDs to obtain a ballot. (They cannot be used to register to vote the first time.) The rationale for the bill is to address the repeatedly proven false narrative (per our Secretary of State) of wide spread voter fraud. The real reason is to restrict voter access particularly among more liberal young college students. At the same time, HB 1795 allowing open carry on campus is being fast tracked to Gov. Ayotte’s desk. The bill’s sponsor is rising GOP star and UNH student Sam Farrington. Mr. Farrington has said of his bill, โCollege students are adults, deserving of an equal protection of the law as it already stands here in New Hampshire.โ Too bad he doesn’t feel that applies to voting. By the way Prof. Innis, my UNH ID expires 5/29/19.
