Not what the Founders intended
The Founders of this nation were white men of power, education and wealth. And yet they mapped out a system to protect the poor, women, children and the differently-abled. All that was asked of citizens was to be educated and to vote. All that was asked of our legislature was to participate in the system of checks and balances in order to keep any one of the three branches from becoming so powerful that the balance was tipped.
What we have now is a federal legislature, made up of predominantly millionaires, that is now voting for policies that go against a system built to protect all of us. Whether out of fear or greed, malfeasance or ignorance, many of our senators and representatives are pandering to ideas and players who will someday be seen as insane by any standard. This period of history will be a shining example of why our Founders placed obstacles in the way of railroading ridiculous legislation. And why an independent judiciary is necessary. And why ordinary citizens need to brush up on critical thinking, which involves seeking out sources of facts, and formulating those facts into solutions which protect the very ideals of this country.
