America is better than this!

How easy it is to see how ridiculous Italy’s Berlusconi was. Or Libya’s Gaddafi. Here we have two authoritarian leaders who were determined to stay in power by any means, and succeeded. According to Ruth Ben-Ghiat’s “Strongmen,” the new authoritarian path is to strike at the system of elections in order to weaken a democracy. If a leader can surround himself with loyalists willing to say anything and crank out loads of disinformation daily, they might just fool enough people into thinking their lives are somehow better. And if he involves our country in regime change by participating in a war, he just might fan up enough distraction to keep voters focused on anything other than what is happening right here.

The history of racism in America is being white-washed out of our national parks and historical sites with signage glossing over the wrongs done in the past to make history more palatable and appear flawless.

President Trump’s businesses declared bankruptcy at least six times, and yet many in the business community lobby for his economic policies.

Those tariffs on other countries made the prices you have paid for consumer goods go up. And now you are paying more for gas because of a trumped-up war. Pun intended.

What a voter reads on their phone every day is part of an algorithm that generates more of the same, making it seem like an idea is generating a wave of information. Your phone is calculated to confirm your point of view. What we need to be reading is a wide range of viewpoints to establish individual truth.

Come on, America. We are better and smarter than this!
