Picture this: It’s a balmy evening, and the sun is drooping low in the sky. The air, accentuated by a slight breeze, feels like a warm caress on your skin. You sit outside with a glass of wine and a plate of whatever hits the spot as you watch families stroll through downtown Concord.

As your dessert arrives at the table, you watch the sky gradually light up with pink and orange hues while birds chirp in the background. Somewhere, there’s a to-do list waiting for you. But it doesn’t matter because right now you’re outside. You’ve eaten a great meal. You’re soaking up all the downtown energy. You feel alive!

Outdoor dining reopened last weekend, so now’s the chance to carpe diem and start to eat outside for the season. It’s one of my favorite activities, no matter which restaurant I’m at on a given evening. Or, sometimes even better, you can catch some fresh air during a lunch break at a table shaded by an umbrella. Nothing like a noontime moment outside to get you through the day.

With that in mind, activity number one for this weekend, assuming the weather cooperates, most definitely should be outdoor dining in downtown Concord!

On Saturday, Kimball Jenkins is hosting a free closing reception for Brenda Wilbert’s “Heart Full of Color” exhibit from 2-4 p.m. The reception will feature art, tea, sweets and live music, so make sure to stop by the Kimball Jenkins mansion to enjoy.

Also on Saturday is the Fourth Annual Granite State Trading Cards & Collectibles Show at the Everett Arena from 9-4 p.m. There will be over 150 vendors, so make sure to stop by if this is your area of interest!

For local crafters, the New Hampshire Sheep and Wool Festival is taking place this weekend on Saturday and Sunday at the Deerfield Fairgrounds. Hosted by the New Hampshire Sheep and Wool Growers Association, the two-day event boasts fiber vendors, sheep shows, lectures, a hand-spun skein contest and far more. On Saturday the festival is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday, it’s open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit https://nhswga.org/ for more information.

And, as a little community PSA: Lilise Designer Resale (where I’ve purchased some of my favorite articles of clothing!) is turning 10 under Elyssa Alfieri’s ownership! To celebrate, the store is hosting an adventure for its clientele: a free luxury mini coach ride to Brimfield North antique market on Sunday, May 24. There are still slots available, so if you’re interested, make sure to sign up on Eventbrite. The trip leaves from the store in the morning and, upon returning, provides clientele with a special sale, refreshments and a raffle opportunity. How fun!
