Having presumptive candidates is not democratic
Being a Democrat in New Hampshire is hard these days. We need leaders who are transparent, responsive and unwilling to be bought while facing complex and urgent issues.
Right now, there is a Democratic primary race for our next U.S. Senator. The primary vote is Sept. 8 but in New Hampshire Democratic circles, it is presumed that Chris Pappas will win. We all saw the painful result of the last presidential race with no primary — yet Pappas is already the “anointed one.”
Pappas is a flawed candidate who has taken millions from PACs. It is not just taking the money that is problematic — it is his compromised positions that result. This week I wrote to Pappas asking him to intervene on the abduction of a U.S. citizen by the Israeli Defense Force. I received an insulting boiler plate response about his “best hopes for peace in Israel/Palestine” that had absolutely nothing to do with my concern. This is an insincere politician that feeds people what he hopes will appease them. I was not appeased.
I want a politician that actually cares, is not bought and truly has the best interest of all New Hampshire residents. That candidate is Karishma Manzur who will champion Medicare for all, oppose wars of distraction and profiteering, build a humane immigration system and work so every person in New Hampshire can afford housing, health care and a livable wage. Read about her!
Please don’t assume this race is a done deal — there is far too much at stake.
