Good news has arrived for those who lamented Concord’s long-lost Red Apple Buffet, known for serving endless quantities of multiple kinds of cuisine.
A new restaurant is in the works at the old Red Apple, and its management told the Monitor it will be a lot like its predecessor.
City Buffet will feature many of the staples of an Asian-style buffet, said owner Daniel Feng, including Chinese, American and some Italian food.
With three months of renovations on the building so far, Feng said he’s aiming to open in October.
The Red Apple closed in the wake of the pandemic, which annihilated the all-you-can-eat restaurant model. The Loudon Road building went on the market but never reopened.
Red Apple fans frequently mused online about its return – and persistent rumors swirled about a revival.
In January of 2025, the realtor for the property told the Monitor that, after multiple agreements fell through, the previous owner would reopen the spot themselves if the building didn’t sell soon. Yet, the Loudon Road fixture stayed dark.
The building finally sold in November for $1.3 million – two-thirds the original asking price and less than the previous owner paid for it in 2007. Feng is a tenant.
Per the signage application with the city, the new buffet will be “all you can eat.”
