Mary Louise Grandmaison

Pembroke, NH – Mrs. Mary Louise (Dexter) Grandmaison, 87, of Pembroke, passed away peacefully at home on August 13, 2026 after a short period of declining health.

Born in Littleton, Mary Louise was the daughter of the late John Stuart and Madelene (Farr) Dexter. She was raised and educated in Littleton, Bethlehem and Enfield and after moving south, was a graduate of Pembroke Academy. She later attended the Elliot Hospital School of Nursing.

In earlier years, Mary Louise stayed at home and raised her family and later went to work at the Pembroke Town Library, where she remained for several years before retiring in 2009, just prior to the birth of her first great grandchild.

Mary Louise enjoyed knitting, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, reading the Bible daily and was a voracious reader and walker. Many recall with a chuckle that when asked how she was doing, her famous response was “just like Mary Poppins, practically perfect in every way.”

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of nearly 59 years, Paul E. Grandmaison, her son-in-law, Leo Lavin, III and her sisters, Ruth Miller and Gwendolyn Cantara.

She is survived by her children: Susan Lavin of Pembroke, Katherine Moulton and her husband Scott of Tilton and Ronald Grandmaison and his wife Michelle of Andover; her grandchildren, Leo Lavin, IV and his wife Janelle, Craig Lavin, Andrew “AJ” Caron and his wife Christina, Melina Cessna and her husband Matthew, Jackson Pennell and his companion Joshua, Abigail Brown and her husband Michael, Matthew Grandmaison and his companion Madeline and Cammy Troian; and her great grandchildren, Ava, Leo V, Lauren, Kinley, Carter and another great grandson due in November. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, September 4th at 12 P.M. in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary Louise’s memory may be sent to the Granite VNA, 30 Pillsbury St. Concord, NH 03301 or the Pembroke Town Library, 313 Pembroke St. Pembroke, NH 03275.
