Never since beginning my political activism in high school, campaigning for McGovern against Nixon, have I worked harder or believed more in a candidate than I do in Carleigh Beriont in her run for Congress.
Carleigh’s motto “More of the same won’t fix this” captures the urgency of the moment and the need for a new direction. She stands among the few electable candidates offering positions that most Americans understand and support.
Rising prices for gas and groceries, soaring property taxes, housing out of reach and childcare and rent consuming huge portions of income are not accidents. They result from deliberate policy choices made by Republicans and supported or weakly challenged by corporate Democrats. Carleigh’s platform outlines specific actions to reverse these trends.
She supports fully funding the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and to significantly reduce local special education costs, the primary driver of school budget increases and property tax hikes. Her housing plan ends tax breaks for hedge funds and private equity firms gobbling up single family homes, modernizes zoning to expand affordable housing and creates loan programs so small builders can compete with corporate developers.
Carleigh backs Medicare for All, a fiscally responsible and widely supported reform. As a union organizer and founding member of a UAW Local fought for fair wages and will work to cap childcare costs at 7% of family income.
Carleigh represents the change voters demand.
