Eastern Ballet Institute’s spring performance will feature an adaptation of the classic children’s story The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams.

The performance will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Concord City Auditorium.

The first act will depict The Velveteen Rabbit.

A velveteen stuffed rabbit becomes a boy’s favorite toy. Eventually, the rabbit grows shabby from days filled with love and play.

When the boy is diagnosed with scarlet fever, the doctor says his room must be disinfected and toys burned. So the stuffed rabbit is tossed into the garden.

That night, as the toy rabbit cries, the Nursery Magic Fairy appears and transforms him into a real rabbit since he’d become real in the eyes of his child.

The second act will be a variety of classical and contemporary dance works by local and student choreographers.

Tickets to the show will be $15 or a family of four pack for $50.

This is the school’s 10th anniversary season, which is one that’s seen great success for its students. Five are now dancing with the Boston Ballet’s pre-professional program; the largest group the school has ever had, said Eastern Ballet’s Artistic Director Brandi Nylen Reed.
