A two-alarm fire Wednesday night rendered a single-family mobile home in Weare uninhabitable.
The Weare Fire Department was dispatched to the home near the All Seasons Campground at 194 Buckley Rd. at approximately 11 p.m.
Fire Chief Mark Roarick said crews arrived to see heavy fire inside the front of the residence, with the lone occupant outside the home.
Firefighters knocked down most of the fire within 20 minutes and were able to clear the scene by 12:30 a.m. Henniker Fire Department assisted at the scene, while other department aid was canceled due to the rapid response.
Roarick said the building was considered “a total loss,” with the cause of the fire still under investigation. The sole resident of the home, an 88-year-old man, did not sustain any apparent injuries and did not request any medical assistance.
The man lived on the property for many years, according to a GoFundMe page set up by a neighbor. He lost many essential belongings in the fire, including hearing aids and glasses, and is living temporarily in a hotel.
“We always harp on having working smoke detectors for early notification and stuff like that,” Roarick said. “It was lucky that the person was awake when all this happened.”
