Just whose local control is it?
What a terrific article, “Student special needs requests growing” by Yasmeen Saadi in Friday’s paper. Detailed enough to explain the issue from multiple viewpoints. Enough space allocated to include this quote from Concord school superintendent Timothy Herbert: “The sheer numbers and the fact that the majority of these were unpredictable circumstances.”
What a shame that this article wasn’t available to Jonathan Mack before his “School tax cap gives local control” My Turn appeared in the same edition. Nothing says engaged citizenry like Mack’s statement “It is up to the GOP… to get these foot dragging voters to the polls,” which pretty much tells you why the so-called “local control” tax referendum was put on the ballot in the first place. Local control is a group of local citizens asking their fellow local citizens to vote to implement a tax cap. It is not Kelly Ayotte and the Republicans in the legislature forcing it there. This is just another stalling tactic on addressing the inequity in school funding between rich and poor school districts.
