About a month ago, we held a presentation and question-and-answer session at the Pembroke Library, and a great group of engaged residents came to learn more about the Concord Monitor. They asked questions about our coverage and pointed out things we were missing.

Another session of Meet the Monitor is coming to Canterbury Shaker Village this Thursday, Oct. 22, starting at 6 p.m. We’ll briefly go over the Monitor’s operations and its coverage of the Canterbury and Loudon communities. A majority of the event will be dedicated to questions, so bring your most pressing queries for our reporters.

Visit the Canterbury Shaker Village’s calendar to sign up for the event — it’s free!

• For the rest of the weekend, you can head down to downtown Concord between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Friday for the 2026 Halloween Howl. The community Halloween event will feature music, food trucks and games. Trunk or Treat with local businesses and enter the costume contest to show off your spooky or funny Halloween costume. A flash mob, a pumpkin contest and games will also amplify the Halloween spirit.

• If you want to keep the Halloween vibes going, Red River Theatres is showing “Rocky Horror Picture Show” on Friday and Saturday at 10 p.m. The annual showing at the theater is sure to be a hoot — dancing and interacting with the movie are encouraged. Show up in a stellar costume and you might win a prize. Tickets for non-members are $25 and come with a prop bag. The showing is 18+ unless accompanied by an adult.

• Concord’s October group hike will start Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Participants will meet at the far left corner of the Concord Unitarian Universalist Church parking lot near Pleasant Street and will follow a moderate 3-mile route along the Winant Park Trails. Hike leaders will talk about the life and legacy of John Gilbert Winant as the group walks around the grounds of his former home.

You can hear me talk more about weekend events on WNHN-LP, 94.7 FM from Wednesday through Saturday.

Arts Ahead is in partnership with WNHN. Coming up next week on “What’s Your Story?” co-hosts Fred Richards and Cary Gladstone will talk with three members of the Freese Brothers Big Band, which has performed concerts locally since the 1980s and awarded more than $110,000 in scholarships from the proceeds of those concerts. Listen to “What’s Your Story?” Mondays, 8 to 8:30 a.m. and repeated Sundays, 12 p.m. to 12:30 p.m., on WNHN-LP, 94.7 FM, and streaming at wnhnfm.org.
