For the second game in a row the No. 17 Southern New Hampshire University baseball team fell behind early, and for the second game in a row the Penmen’s comeback bid fell short. After losing to New York Institute of Technology in the first game of their Division II NCAA East Super Regional on Friday in Hooksett, SNHU saw its season end on Saturday with a 6-3 loss to NYIT, which now advances to the D-II College World Series for the first time in program history.
The Bears (37-14) took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning and chased SNHU starter Endy Morales. They pushed the lead to 4-0 in the fourth, but SNHU (40-15) answered with three runs in the fifth, including one from Bow resident Tom Blandini (2-for-5). The Penmen put a runner on in the seventh inning and two more in the eighth, but they couldn’t find a way to score them.
