Congress will soon make a decision on GMO labeling. And we have a problem here in New Hampshire.

Sen. Kelly Ayotte continues to take money from the groups who aim to stop strong state labeling laws from going into effect. And she continues to vote with them to replace these clear, on-package labeling laws with a weak national standard amounting to nothing more than a sell-out.

I may be just an average guy, but to me, this issue is one of common sense. Actually, 90 percent of people polled in the Granite State believe that they have the right to know if their food contains GMOs.

Weโ€™re not interested in Sen. Ayotte taking money from large industrial food producers and then telling us that we donโ€™t need to know whatโ€™s in the food weโ€™re feeding our children. Being from her hometown and knowing her before she took office, I had hoped to have the chance to discuss this with her.

After contacting her several times with no response, I eventually received a form letter from one of her staff members. Last time around I happily supported Sen. Ayotte, but this is a simple choice. She is willing to choose money from big interests over protecting our interests and is clearly on the wrong side of this issue.

I am looking forward to the opportunity to support Maggie Hassan if she decides to be on the right one.
