Three members of the Concord area, Buntin-Rumford-Webster Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (Kay Sternenberg, Chapter Regent; Sheila Knight, Chapter Historian, and Jennifer Day), attended the annual inspection ceremonies for the Newport News Division, Naval Sea Cadets, at the National Guard Armory on March 2. The Chapter awarded two awards, the DAR Outstanding Cadet Medal and the DAR Youth Citizenship Award.

The DAR Outstanding Cadet Medal was awarded to Petty Officer (3rd Class) Hugo Serrano. Petty Officer Serrano was nominated for this award because throughout his time in the Division, he has displayed dedication and leadership by mentoring new cadets and coaching them as they grow. He has played taps on his trumpet for solemn occasions including Memorial Day. He has staffed and participated in multiple trainings in 2019.

The DAR Youth Citizenship Award was presented to Petty Officer (3rd Class) Nolan Haley. Petty Officer Haley was nominated for his commitment to the program and his leadership skills. He also mentors the cadets under him and has participated in color guards at various events and parades throughout the year. He is always willing to support the Division at any event.
