A Pittsfield student has been banned from Pittsfield Middle High School while police investigate a threat on social media.

Pittsfield police are currently investigating the incident with the Pittsfield school district and the Merrimack County Attorneys Office, according to a Facebook post made by Pittsfield police Chief Jeffrey Cain on Tuesday night. The student’s parents have also been notified, Cain said.

The threat was made sometime Tuesday afternoon on a student’s Facebook post, which read: “Whoever plans on shooting up a school next, please pick Pittsfield. Thank you.”

Cain said there will be an increased police presence at the school as a precaution.

The district is held a school safety meeting Wednesday night at the PMHS media center. The forum was scheduled to be held prior to the incident.

The school said in a posting on its website that anyone with questions should contact PMHS dean of operations Derek Hamilton at 435-6701.
