A hiker who injured himself hiking above treeline Saturday had to be carried off the mountain this weekend.
According to New Hampshire Fish and Game, Randy Wojcik, 40, of Pelham was hiking alone, using snowshoes on the Carter-Moriah Trail toward Carter Notch Hut when he slipped on a steep, icy section and injured his leg.
He was found by another hiker, who took him to the hut, which is open in the winter. The Appalachian Mountain Club caretaker splintered his leg but the next day Wojcik could not walk. Rescue personnel carried him out about 4 miles over the 19-N Mile Brook Trail.
Fish and Game said Wojcik was experienced and โwell prepared, with all the recommended gear for a winter hike above tree line.โ
