The recent Epsom town election ushered in many changes in elected officials and budgets for the upcoming year.
One change that went under the radar on election day was the departure of Chris Bowes after five years as an Epsom selectman.
Although I am happy for Chris, I am concerned about the huge void that will be left behind as a result of his departure. Chris epitomizes what a town official should be.
Shortly after moving to Epsom with his wife and two young children, Chris stepped forward to run for selectman because he wanted to contribute to his new community. Even as a newcomer he outdistanced a crowded field of candidates who had been involved with Epsom politics for years.
Voters could sense that he was a rare find who would help move Epsom forward. They were not disappointed.
Over five often difficult years he was a beacon of leadership for the residents of our town. Many times he was forced to sacrifice time with his family to attend to the needs of the town and he never faltered.
I had the great pleasure of serving by his side for two years as a fellow selectman, and I can honestly say that although I have served with many dedicated officials during my 12 years in various positions, Chris set the standard of excellence.
I want to take this opportunity to thank Chris Bowes for his tireless service to our town and wish him well going forward. He will be a hard act to follow.
