A Concord man’s attempted robbery of the Sunoco gas station on Manchester Street was thwarted by the clerk who suffered minor injuries, according to court records.

Tyler Carlson, 30, was recently indicted in Merrimack County Superior Court in Concord on one count of attempted armed robbery in connection with the incident on the evening of Nov. 15, 2019.

The gas station clerk told police that he was making coffee when an armed man approached him from behind and demanded cash, according to a sworn affidavit. The clerk reportedly threw a cup of coffee at the man and then reached for the knife, which he described as being similar to a butcher’s knife. The suspect then fled on foot.

Police said the clerk suffered a cut to his palm and was treated by paramedics at the scene.

An officer patrolling the area after the attempted robbery spoke with Carlson who at the time said he had just come from a friend’s house. Carlson lived roughly a half-a-mile from the Sunoco gas station at 15 Manchester St., records show.

During a later encounter with police, Carlson admitted to the Nov. 15 robbery, saying he was trying to get money for drugs, the affidavit says.
