■Today at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, the monthly African Catholic Mass will be held at 1 p.m.with Fr. Maurice. At all Masses, the annual Blessing of the Throats will be held at the end of the service. ■Granite State Baptist Church on Sheep Davis Road be having its annual Chili Bakeoff and judging to see who has the best chili served after the 10 a.m. Worship Service. The chili will be judged by non-members of the church. You can feast on 18 different types of chili.
■The Concord Knights of Columbus No. 110 will meet Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church Parish Activity Center, 180 Loudon Road.

■Don’t forget if you can’t get to the polls Feb. 11, contact the City Clerk’s office for an absentee ballot application. You must fill out the ballot yourself and sign it where it asks and then mail it yourself in the postal mail. You can not have someone else take the ballot to city hall. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and you will need to declare a party if you are registered as undeclared. Remember before you leave the polling place if you wish to return undeclared status, you must see the Supervisors of the Checklist and register as undeclared. Once you leave the building if you don’t switch back, you will be listed as the party you took a ballot from. The next primary is in September for the state and county elections

■I would liker to extend deepest sympathies to the family of Kenneth and Pearl Barrett who passed away recently. They lived in Jensen’s Mobile Home Park for many years and Kenneth was involved with Concord Veterans Council and in Ward 8 as Ward Clerk. Their funeral will be April 10 with a visiting hour from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. with a service at 3 p.m. with full military honors in the chapel at the N.H. Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. Pheneuf Funeral Home in Boscawen is in charge of arrangements.
