An immature Bald Eagle continues to make its home on the Sanbornton side of Lake Winnisquam. Bald Eagles do not get white plummage until after they are two years old.

The New Hampshire Audubon’s mid-winter bird survey for 2020 showed more than 100 bald eagles, a steady increase after years of conservation efforts. Eagles are not longer on the threatened and endangered species list but are now considered a “special concern.”

The nest on Lake Winnisquam has been in that tree for more than four years and last year had two eaglets.
