Nothing personal against Arnie’s, but judging by the various articles that have been printed in the Monitor since it was announced that Dairy Queen was coming to town it is obvious that the Monitor believes that there is only one restaurant on Loudon Road, Arnie’s. By now, of course, we have the new DQ and the Red Arrow.
There happen to be a lot of eateries on Loudon Road, some locally owned, many chains and even a few that serve ice cream, not just Arnie’s. Most of these restaurants have pretty full parking lots at meal times on most days. It is wrong to ignore all of these businesses just because you happen to favor Arnie’s. All of these other restaurants employ local people, feed local people, contribute to the local economy and pay taxes.
Wake up, Monitor writers. You may do most of your eating at home, or on Main Street, which is fine. But though they may be beneath your standards, there are quite a number of other restaurant choices on the east side of town as well. All of these businesses are run by good citizens trying to make a living.
