A Massachusetts man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after he crashed his car into a home in the South End on Sunday night, Concord police said.
Around 9 p.m., a white Ford sedan drove into 366 South Main St., a three-bedroom cape at the bend in the road where Broadway meets South Main.
The driver, who police identified as Michael Murphy, 73, of Lynn, Mass., was not injured in the crash. He also faces a charge of making an illegal lane change.
No one inside was injured in the crash, but the home and foundation sustained damage that concerned first responders. Concord Fire Department braced the damaged home to help one resident evacuate, who needed some assistance because of an existing medical condition.
The owners, Alissa and Donald Jelley, were cleared by the city inspector to return to their home on Monday. While there is damage to the foundation and building itself, the home is structurally sound and the most essential living spaces were spared from the damage, Alissa Jelley said Tuesday.
