■The Open Door Community Kitchen serves free hot and nutritious meals every Monday and Wednesday, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Meals are served in Fellowship Hall at the United Church of Penacook, please use the rear parking lot entry door. All are welcome.

■There will be no trash and recycling collected Monday (Labor Day) due to the holiday. All routes will be moved one day forward to conclude on Saturday with Friday’s route.

■The Concord Public Library would like you to join other book lovers at Books and Brew on Wednesday at Concord Craft Brewing Company (117 Storrs Street)! Chat about what you’ve been reading, and listen to suggestions and recommendations from other readers. There are no assigned books in this group; just come and share your latest reads! The program will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and Library staff will be on hand to take notes and, will share the group’s recommendations on the Library’s website. ■The 35th Annual Concord Kiwanis Antique & Classic Car Show will be on Sept. 10. The event will be held at NHTI, Concord’s Community College from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There will be 17 class trophies and a Best of Show award, a giant raffle with over 60 items plus a 50/50 raffle. ■Thursday at noon at Gibson’s Bookstore, 45 South Main St., they are continuing their Literary Lunchtime brown-bag lunch author event, with Phil Primack presenting his exploration into the life of an Epping, NH woman from the 19th century, in Put It Down on Paper: The Words and Life of Mary Folsom Blair, a Fifty-Year Search. He learned more about this lifelong teacher, Quaker, and early advocate for outdoor education. Her sharp mind and creative soul grapple with the social restraints of her time and “the pain this world holds for a woman.” Bring a sack lunch, or show up early to order a sandwich or salad bowl from the Gibson’s Cafe, to eat while you listen.

This program is an initiative of Stay Work Play, in partnership with New Hampshire Public Radio, to celebrate and recognize New Hampshire’s remarkable young people and the businesses that go the extra mile to recruit and retain them. Join us at the Bank of New Hampshire Stage, 16 South Main St. The in-person event will feature live music, light refreshments and a cash bar, and for the first time an after-party to celebrate this year’s winners. All attendees will have the opportunity to participate in the interactive live audience poll to select this year’s “Coolest Employer for Young People” award winner. Celebrate the young people making an impact in the Granite State as we honor our 2022 Rising Stars Awards winners on Friday from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

■There will be a rewarding 10-mile road race through Concord’s scenic countryside on Saturday at 9 a.m. at NHTI – Concord’s Community College, 31 College Drive. Run as a two-person relay team (taking on five miles each) or run the full 10 miles. This USATF Certified 10-mile running road race runs along a bike path to a forested country road and you’ll be cheered across the finish line by the kids from the local Boys & Girls Club who your registration directly benefits. ■Learn to weave a fun little basket that will hold anything from muffins to remotes. Suitable for any skill level (including complete beginners) the basket for this class has a 5-inch by 7-inch base and is 3-inches high. It will have blue dyed trim and when finished will be over-dyed with antique gray for a truly lovely country look. You’ll learn the basics of basket weaving, plus how to create a filled base and the two wrapped handles. All you’ll need to bring are strong hands and a plastic bag to take your dyed basket home in! ■On Monday, the City offices will be closed due to the Labor Day Holiday. Trash and recycling collection will be postponed to Tuesday. Collection for the rest of the week will be delayed by one day through Saturday.

■Go to the Concord Farmers Market but don’t drive near it on Saturday from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Capitol Street, from Main Street to North State Street.

■The Concord Historical Society’s Second Thursday Program for Sept. 8 is titled, “Different Roots, Common Dreams.” It features a presentation by photographer Becky Field exploring the historical perspective of immigration in Concord and New Hampshire. Becky will talk and show some of her many photographs of new Americans. Our program is also meant to serve as a prelude to activities during “Welcome Week” which will be observed the following week and leading up to the Concord Multicultural Festival on Sept. 18.
