The man who died in an accident last Friday on Loudon Road in Concord never stopped at a red light and crashed into the back of other vehicles, police said.

James McBee, 45, of Concord was traveling west on Loudon Road past the Everett Arena toward Fort Eddy Road around 11 a.m. in a 2022 Chevy Trailblazer when he slammed into other vehicles that were stopped at the light, pushing them into traffic. Six vehicles in all were involved in the crash.

“He was traveling from East Concord and did not appear to brake or slow down,” said Concord Police Detective Lieutenant Marc McGonagle.

Concord police are still investigating the accident, including whether McBee suffered a medical emergency prior to the accident.

“He appeared to be traveling consistent with vehicular traffic in the area,” McGonagle said.

Accident reconstruction could take six to eight weeks and toxicology reports revealing medical information that could have led to the crash could take even longer.

McBee previously lived in Franklin and was an avid motorcyclist with a green thumb, a ccording to his obituary.

“As the oldest sibling, James was the perfect big brother. He was always there to guide and support them,” his obituary read. “Life wasn’t always kind to him, but he never stopped being kind in turn. He always knew how to brighten the mood.”

He was a father of three.

“He always put his family, especially the children, before himself,” his obituary said. “He loved gaming, often getting the kids together to play Uno.”

Multiple ambulances arrived at the scene of the accident and tended to the wounded. Four other people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. All of them have since been released, police said.

The accident, cleanup and investigation caused traffic backups throughout the area last Friday. Loudon Road was closed in both westbound and eastbound directions at Hazen Drive and Airport Road. Additionally, Exit 14 Northbound off-ramp and Loudon Road Eastbound at Exit 14 were closed, causing delays on Interstate 93.

Services for McBee will be held Monday evening at Grace Capital Church in Pembroke. An online fundraiser has been set up to support the family.
