John Teti has donated more than 500 original photographs and more than 500 rare and out-of-print books to the New Hampshire Institute of Arts’s collection. Teti also made a donation to establish the Teti Fellowship program for four to six students to receive grants of $2,500 to $5,000 to transportation, lodging and meals in order to do research in the Teti library.
The latest addition to the school’s collection includes work by many photography leaders of the 20th century including Harry Callahan, Paul Caponigro, Imogen Cunningham, Lee Friedlander, Kenneth Josephson, Andre Kertesz, Sally Mann, Elliot Porter, Man Ray, Edward Steichen, Jock Sturges, Brett Weston, Edward Weston and Minor White.
The school had already established the John Teti Rare Photography Book Collection in October 2007 with the donation by Teti of more than 2,000 rare books, periodicals, prints and documents. The collection includes Edward Steichen’s personal copies of Alfred Stieglitz’s Camera Work.
“NHIA’s photography department is a model for all art schools. It maintains a deep respect for the history and traditions of photography while keeping step with contemporary approaches to the medium,” Teti said in a statement. “I am most pleased to continue to support the enrichment of NHIA’s students and all others who benefit from the deep resources of the Teti Library and the college’s special collections.”
