Matthew Daly of the Associated Press writes (Monitor Politics, Feb. 14) that Democrats face a bind in the Senate vote on the “Green New Deal.” I believe it is more a double-edged sword. Millennials now make up the largest voting block in the country. Millennials have a more personal and urgent stake in global warming, a.k.a. climate change, than Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. According to NASA, Miami’s sea level has risen 3 inches since 1992. It is presently only 4 feet above sea level. There are some land masses in the world where sea levels have risen 9 inches. Further, the coal industry employs 50,000 workers while green energy has created 350,000 new jobs. I look forward to the Green New Deal debate being informative and educational for all of us.

Republicans are also in a bind. In this vote, they will be voting against the science.
