Once again we must suffer the disappointments of a governor who fails to act responsibly in bringing good health, good fortune, good governance and safety to the people of New Hampshire.

Last week’s vetoes of bills supporting gun safety, increased wages and fair governance can be added to the list of legislation this governor has vetoed during his term in office. Clearly he does not have our best interests in mind.

According to the governor, we don’t need more gun-safety legislation because New Hampshire is safe enough with existing laws and responsible gun owners. I wonder if the 147 families (2017 stats) affected by gun-related deaths would agree. I, too, know many responsible gun owners; they’re not the ones I’m worried about. I’m worried about the angry young men who load themselves up with assault weapons with the intent of killing as many people as possible.

Existing laws don’t protect us from them. Banning assault weapons and making reasonable time restraints for sales might.

Opioid deaths in this state are staggering. I wonder if we’ll have to wait until the death toll from guns reaches over 400 for the governor and his party to consider action. I’m not willing to wait until then. Next year, this governor and other members of his party will be running for office. I will be voting them out.
