The July 25 Beetle Bailey strip features a woman “from an anti-bully action group” offering Sarge the opportunity to become the group’s spokesman. And in a small inset appears the message, “DON’T BULLY.”

Having read the strip for most of my 74 years, I was gob-smacked.

For the first time in my recollection, the Walkers have indicated that they realize that their fall-back riff of Sarge pummeling Beetle may no longer be PC, if it ever was.

I hope that they similarly reassess the sexism, racism, alcoholism and misogyny that pervade the strip.
