I read with interest Alan Pardy’s “A failure to protect” letter and after the first sentence I must admit as an independent voter I am totally confused. Bill Clinton (Democrat) was president from 1992 to 2000 and Barack Obama (Democrat) from 2008 to 2016. I don’t understand the “40 year successive denigration by Republication administrations.”

We all know how Clinton acted in the oval office. To those who forgot, among other things, it was Bill Clinton who signed the China trade agreements that Trump recently revoked. These agreements sent many of our manufacturing jobs overseas. One of those jobs was mine.

After the 9/11 attacks, a Republican president, George W. Bush, mailed every household a check for $600 to increase consumer spending and stimulate the economy. After the near crash in 2008 and 2009, President Obama’s response was to sequester 20% of much-needed unemployment benefits.

Whether you like the current president or not, everyone shares a responsibility to adhere to the guidelines issued to prepare and protect yourself and others around you. Failure to do so will be shared by all if we don’t act appropriately. Unlike the yahoos who won’t take this pandemic seriously, the “shame” rests on their shoulders and not the government’s. They are the ones who should be prosecuted for creating an unsafe and unhealthy environment. And when people receive their paper checks from our inept government, I hope all will maintain the six-foot distance in line at the bank when cashing it.
