A Boscawen man was arrested Thursday after firing a handgun at another man after an argument, police said. No one was injured.
Derek Dussault was charged with felony reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and attempted first degree assault with a deadly weapon – both Class A felonies, according to Boscawen Police Lieutenant Jason Killary.
Killary said the Boscawen Police Department responded to 5 Bailey Drive at 5:22 p.m. Thursday for reports of a shooting.
Witnesses at the home said a group of people were hanging out when Dussault and another man got into a brief physical fight, police said. Dussault walked to his vehicle, retrieved a .40 caliber handgun, and fired four shots at the other man, police said.
Dussault then got back into his car and drove off, police said.
Police put out a bulletin for Dussault and made contact with him when he called the station and told police he was at his home in a neighborhood nearby. A group of officers drove to his house and made contacted him through a loudspeaker. Dussault exited the home and surrendered, police said.
Killary said police were able to find a .40 caliber handgun at Dussault’s home, as well as shell casings that matched ones found at the scene of the shooting.
Dussault was held on preventative detention and was scheduled to be arraigned on the felony charges Friday at Merrimack County Superior Court.
Officers from the Boscawen Police Department, Merrimack County Sheriff’s Office, Webster Police Department and New Hampshire State Police assisted in the investigation.
