SB 3 and SB 418 are senate bills drafted in response to the Big Lie by Republicans. When SB 3 became law, opponents filed suit. The NH Supreme Court unanimously struck down the law as “impos[ing] unreasonable burdens on the right to vote.” The protracted litigation cost NH taxpayers $4.2M in legal costs. Opponents of SB 418 will likely file suit on multiple grounds, including known time constraints threatening the voting rights of overseas voters, military and non-military; long delays in determining election results; jeopardizing New Hampshire’s long-standing, same-day registration option and first-in-the-nation primary; and creation of voter-identifiable ballots that may not be counted.

These same aspects of the original bill recently criticized by Gov. Sununu remain in the amended bill. The governor needs to reach for his veto pen. Similar bills here and nationwide, serve to distract from the menacing tactics of the MAGA crowd. It is no coincidence that 50 candidates for governor in more than 24 states are setting the stage for 24 governors to reverse election results unilaterally. But it only takes one. In Pennsylvania, 585,000 voters supported Doug Mastriano as nominee for governor, a candidate who announced he will do the work of God to unilaterally reverse election results not to his liking. An autocracy can’t happen in America, you say? It’s happening as you read this. Get involved. Seek and defend truth. Register now, and vote in November against autocracy like your freedoms depend on it. They do.
