Highlights: After over two decades at Merrimack Valley, the baton was passed to Sanborn for the inaugural Sanborn Invitational, featuring 31 teams from Divisions II and III. No team scores were kept, but defending D-II champions Coe-Brown were one of the top teams of the day, placing in the top six of several events and finishing in the top four for all three relays. Baylus won the 100-meter dash title in 10.75 seconds, faster than his state-record mark of 10.77 seconds (his current state record stands his those records can only be set at state meets). Hopkinton competed in its first meet of the season.
Coach’s quote: “The boys had some strong performances and Max Bishop really came to play in the javelin with his second place finish and new Hopkinton school record. Tom Ellsworth had some good jumps with a strong result for the long (jump). The distance group with Ben Daniels and Matt Clarner are looking good for the early season. I think they can really fine tune things in the next month.” – Hopkinton’s Rob Rothe
