I’ve worked for 36 years as a pediatrician, most recently in Plymouth. Over that period, I have become increasingly concerned about the way stress in the life of a child can cause long-term, even permanent, brain abnormalities affecting many aspects of the child’s life.
Because of the importance of minimizing traumas of the children, but also of their parental caregivers, I strongly support universal, robust medical coverage. Non-insurance and under-insurance leave families looking to their pocketbooks when deciding whether to see a doctor. Delay of care costs lives.
Elizabeth Warren’s plan can be done: I worked in a state that, essentially overnight, mandated and provided solid medical coverage for every child. Day after day I saw new patients brought in by struggling young parents. There were untreated chronic conditions, overdue immunizations, and often a need of infant and child safety and health guidance. I would leave work knowing that the families and the community were going to be better.
Warren’s plan calls for everyone eventually to become enrolled. What will be changed is the expense of the costly middlemen. Sen. Warren has offered a detailed transitional plan and shown how she will fund this system.
For these reasons I support Sen. Elizabeth Warren and her “Medicare for All” option. Go to her website and see what America can do. We should not compromise with a status quo that currently fails so many of our families and children.
