Weare’s senior legion baseball team defeated Manchester’s Sweeney Post 2 on Friday, 8-2, and swept a doubleheader against Keene on Saturday to improve Post 65’s record to 12-4 and secure the top seed in the District A standings.

Austin Hazzard struck out 13 batters in 5⅔ innings on the mound against Sweeney, while Cam Bergeron (2-for-3) and Brett Patnode (1-for-3, two RBI) led the offense.

Nate Innferfield pitched five shutout innings and Ryan Ardine earned the save in a narrow 2-1 victory in game one against Keene, while AJ Detone earned the complete-game victory on the mound in a 15-3 six inning win in game game.

Brady Philibotte and Jason Crean both hit 5-for-7 over the course of the doubleheader, while Carter Pike went 3-for-4 in game two.

Weare has won nine consective games.

Through Saturday’s completed games, Weare (12-4) and Keene (10-7) had both clinched spots in the Senior Legion State Tournament that starts on Friday at Holman Stadium in Nashua.

Laconia (9-7) is currently in third and Concord Post 21 (7-8) is still in the hunt for the a spot thanks to a 7-5 win over Sweeney on Friday.

Mike Stoddard and Jake Sullivan each drove in two runs, while Matt Hamilton pitched three shutout innings in the win.

Merrimack (7-8) is currently tied with Concord for that final tournament spot out of District A. The two teams will play each other on Monday.

As of press time on Sunday, the time and location for that game – as well as the results from Sunday’s doubleheader between Weare and Concord – were not yet available.
