On June 22, the Henniker Summer Concert Series presents two young bands with Henniker roots. Dysfunctional Coasting is made of four members all went or are still going to John Stark High School and Marvel Prone is guitarist and former student of Henniker Community School music teacher Taylor Carroll.
Former John Stark High School students Devon Snow and Marcus McFall, guitars, Dan Fitzgibbons, drums and Jackson Smith, bass, are Dysfunctional Coasting, a jam-band formed in 2018. They have released two albums to date and have been working hard to develop their sound. They play a wide range of styles but focus on having fun. According to Jackson, โItโs all about the nuance.โ
Sharing the show with the local quartet is Marvel Prone. Marvel Prone will curl your jeans, dip your heart in tie-dye, and echo-locate fallen stars in the dark waters of your soul. Last year Marvel Prone released their second studio album She Hits Me. According to the band: Prepare for transcendence as Rainor, Ed, Meghan, and Nick lift your spirits to the astral plane where you can amplify the highest vibrational frequencies tridimensional consciousness has ever beheld.
In presenting these up-and-coming groups, the Henniker Concert Committee is looking toward the future and potential super-groups of tomorrow. We hope our audience will come out to support these youth-oriented bands welcoming them to the Angela Robinson Bandstand.
The Henniker Summer Music Series is sponsored by the town of Henniker. All concerts are free (although donations are welcome), begin at 6:30 p.m. and take place at the Angela Robinson Bandstand at Community Park, Main Street.
We continue to follow current best practices from the CDC as we plan for an exciting and safe summer series. As we see increases in vaccination rates and a decrease in infection rates ) and, as the State of New Hampshire continues to allow more activities, especially outdoors where the CDC indicates the risk of COVID infection is minimal, the Henniker Board of Selectmen approved removing the fencing around Community Park and the need to mark out squares for the Summer Concert Series. We ask you to use your own judgment in deciding whether or not to wear masks and/or to socially distance.
There is no provision for moving indoors this summer and if there is inclement weather, the concert will be canceled and, if possible, rescheduled. Bring a chair, spread a blanket, visit a local restaurant or have a picnic supper on the lawn and join your neighbors and friends in this community-building event at our bandstand. The complete summer schedule is available on the Town of Henniker website, henniker.org. For more information, contact hennikerconcerts@henniker.org. Check Facebook.com/HennikerConcertSeries the day of the concert to receive updated weather information regarding cancelation.

Just in time to welcome in the summer and return to gathering in person, the Center for the Arts announces their Annual Gala will take place July 8 at the New London Historical Society. They invite people to enjoy a delightful evening of music and dancing to the sounds of The Bedford Big Band, plus the annual 10-by-10 art sale, all to raise money for CFA Arts Education Scholarships. The Center for the Arts has awarded more than $28,000 to students to attend summer intensives and to those pursuing the arts in college. Students from all twelve towns in the Lake Sunapee Region have benefited from these scholarships over the years. Some of the summer programs have included the Joffrey Ballet, Radio City Music Hall, the Kinhaven Music School, the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and our own New London Barn Junior Intern Program, as well as those pursuing the arts at Middlebury College, Emerson College, the Hart School of Music, and others. After a long difficult year of cancellations and restrictions in the world, and in the art world particularly, it is even more important to come out to celebrate and support this event and these young folks. This event will help fund this yearโs scholarship awards, which will be announced at our July 2 First Friday at the bandstand in New London. The event takes place at the New London Historical Society on July 8 and begins at 6:30 p.m. All tables and seating will be socially distant and pod reservations are available upon request. Complimentary hors dโoeuvres and desserts will be served and there will be a cash bar. Tickets are limited. The cost is $60 per person for non-members and $50 per person for CFA members. Tickets can be purchased online at centerfortheartsnh.org/gala and at Morgan Hill Bookstore or the Tatewell Gallery and include one free drink. If you have questions or need further information, please contact info@cfanh.org.
