The first woman to be a New Hampshire State Senator, E. Maude Ferguson of Bristol, will receive a historical marker in town this weekend.

Ferguson, a Republican, was elected a state representative in 1927 and a senator for the 1931–1933 term, becoming the first female to serve in that body. She was also a delegate to the 1932 Republican National Convention in Chicago. Her portrait hangs in the State House.

There will be a short event in Central Square on Saturday, June 5, at 9 a.m., where the marker will be unveiled and state Rep. Ned Gordon will tell more about Ferguson. The event is rain or shine.

The event was organized by Gordon and Bristol Historical Society member Lucille Keegan.
