In the wake of last week's tragedy at Fort Hood, I applaud Merrimack Valley High School's decision to reverse its ruling and allow Jordan Westgate's military photo for his senior picture. I am a graduate of MV and also the proud parent of an Army soldier and an Air Force airman.

There are exceptions to every rule, and I am pleased MV chose to make one in this case.

The young men and women who join the military prove their patriotism and fierce loyalty to their country before even putting on that uniform. I am proud to see the school supporting such a courageous and selfless decision.

Private Westgate, thank you for your service to our country. May you finish your senior year with your head held high. May God be with you.

SHELBY BOYCE
