A wanted man was arrested in Hill on Tuesday where authorities say he hid in a family’s attic as police surrounded the home.
Austin Ayer, 22, surrendered himself to police and was taken into custody without incident, according to a state police press release.
Police said Ayer had been evading law enforcement for “several months” and had several warrants for his arrest, including possession of a narcotic, falsifying physical evidence, driving after suspension and simple assault-domestic violence.
Police were informed Tuesday afternoon that Ayer was staying in a home on Lynch Road in Hill. Police arrived at the home about 6:14 p.m. but residents there said they were unsure if Ayer was inside.
A short time later, a family member confirmed that Ayer was inside and hiding in the attic, according to the press release. Troopers surrounded the home and used a loudspeaker to communicate with Ayer, who surrendered immediately, police said.
Ayer was taken to Belknap County jail. Police ask anyone with information to contact Trooper Nicholas Post at 223-4381 or nicholas.post@dos.nh.gov.
