Girls’ Basketball

Concord 54, Derryfield 35

Key players: Concord – Delaney Duford (11 points), Aidah Smalley (8 points), Jaylyn Jefferson (9 rebounds)

Highlights: Concord jumped out early with great defensive stops and balanced, easy scoring offensive conversions to lead 31-13 at halftime. The Cougars hit three 3s in the third quarter to cut the Tide’s lead to 41-24, but Concord had a balanced attack in the fourth quarter to secure the semifinal victory in the Douglas Chandler Christmas Tournament in Manchester.

Coach’s quote: “Coach Fuhrmeister continued to hold down the fort while I could not be there. Watching from home, I was very proud of our enthusiasm, defensive execution, and unselfish play. We have specific areas we are working to improve on the defensive end, and I really saw our players pay attention to detail in those areas. The ownership and commitment to each other that our program has shown this past week is a very proud moment. I am thankful to have players who buy in to what we are trying to achieve as a program, as well as coaches who can step in and deliver the same messages. All of these experiences will help us moving forward.” – Concord’s Tim LaTorra
