Saturday’s letters contained one from Mark Zaccaria with his concerns about CRT (Monitor, 1/15). He’s worried about “an underground movement…” (and, paraphrasing) to change opinions about why “our forebears created the republic.” He says CRT “is the creature of a wholesale rewrite of American history.” He thinks the “1619 Project” is changing the date of the Declaration of Independence.
He says, “CRT-based curricula, (are) flooding the primary and secondary schools of our nation…” None of this comports with what I’ve read about these topics, so I wonder what he is reading. At this point most of us realize there are many sources out there for misinformation and it can be easy to be taken in by them and alarmed by them, if we aren’t exposed to all sides of an issue. I recommend that Mr. Zaccaria and all of us widen our sourcing of information.
