Recently passed legislation has major benefits for veterans and their families. The American Rescue Plan has $17 billion including funds for homelessness programs and job retraining. It was opposed by the majority of House Republicans and Senate Republicans. The PACT Act helps veterans exposed to burn pits and other toxins such as Agent Orange. It provides a great number of benefits including increased screening and treatment for toxic exposure conditions. It also results in speeding up access to benefits by reducing bureaucratic obstacles to an estimated 3.5 million veterans.
It also establishes much needed outreach programs to inform veterans of possible exposure to toxins and increases the number of VA clinics. Senate Republicans threatened to kill the bill but changed their position as a result of a large demonstration by veterans. New Hampshire’s Democratic congressional delegation supported these bills. As a veteran receiving disability for Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam, I am proud to support Senator Hassan, and Reps. Kuster and Pappas for reelection.
