The driver of the logging truck that spilled dozens of full-size pine logs on North State Street on Tuesday has been cited for speeding, according to Concord police.
At about 9 a.m., a truck from Varney & Sons logging two tri-axle, fixed-frame trailers full of logs was traveling west on Hutchins Street in Concord. After passing a city crew collecting curbside leaves, it went down a sharp hill toward North State Street.
While attempting to navigate the sharp right turn onto North State Street, the driver struck and damaged a utility pole and more than 20 pine logs fell onto the street, blocking traffic in both directions. Nobody was injured and the intersection was blocked for more than six hours until logging crews could clean up the scene.
A speeding citation carries varying fines depending on the circumstances. Further details were not available Wednesday.
