Gov. Maggie Hassan and the Executive Council have delayed a key vote on the controversial Mount Sunapee expansion, saying they need time to be fully briefed.

The group said Wednesday they will hold a public briefing sometime next week and likely vote on the plan the following week.

“We just received this proposal late last week, and in a sense we’re amongst the councilors here that we would like to get our own presentation,” said Councilor Joseph Kenney.

The expansion was approved last week by the Department of Resources and Economic Development, but needs the support of Hassan and the five-man council to move forward. Opponents, many of whom turned out Wednesday for the council meeting, claim the change will degrade public land, price out low-income families and open the door for slopeside condominiums. Proponents insist it will stimulate the local economy
