Easter morning dawned cold and cloudy Sunday, but that didn’t stop almost 40 people from attending a 6:30 a.m., sunrise service in Webster. Held atop Pearson Hill Road, men and women of all ages sung hymns, listened to prayers led by Rev. David Richardson of the First Congregational Church, and stood for a moment of silence, punctuated only slightly by some chirp-chirps.
“Did you arrange for that bird to be here?” Richardson asked one parishioner.
Webster’s early service – which was one of several held across the region – was followed by breakfast at the town hall. Chilly fingers and faces were warmed by coffee and a hot breakfast prepared by church volunteers.
While most egg hunts were held earlier this week or last weekend, the Next Level Church held it’s second annual “Egg Drop” Sunday, providing helicopter-deposited plastic eggs full of toys for children to collect at Mill Brook School in Concord. After attending a service – a requirement as a means of crowd control, explained Pastor Pablo Lopez – several hundred children and parents kept busy with bouncy houses, face-painting and free pizza for an hour, waiting for the eggs to drop.
