The American Red Cross is helping 14 people displaced by fire this week.
An attic fire Tuesday morning at a three-story apartment building on Broadway – just across from a Concord Fire Department station – forced three families to find shelter. Concord fire Chief Dan Andrus said all 11 people have found a place to stay.
The American Red Cross said its Disaster Action Team volunteers met with residents to ensure they have food, clothing and other essentials and a safe place to sleep. Caseworkers will be in contact with the families in the upcoming days.
Red Cross volunteers also responded to Ledge Road in Northfield on Monday, where a small fire displaced a family of three. Northfield-Tilton fire and EMS Chief Michael Sitar Jr. said his department and Franklin’s fire department responded to the call about 11:30 p.m. Monday.
The fire, which Sitar said left minor damage, was electrical in nature and therefore the family’s electrical service was cut off for safety.
Sitar said the family could most likely return to the home once the electricity is turned back on.
The State Employees’ Association of New Hampshire sent a message out Wednesday requesting help for one of its members, Melissa Lockwood, a tenant of the Concord apartment building.
“Melissa, her partner and two children, are now without a home,” the SEA said in an email. “They are being housed for a week at the Red Roof Inn, but do not know what they will do after that.”
Anyone interested in helping these and other disaster victims can donate to the American Red Cross by visiting redcross.org/NHVT, calling 1-800-464-6692, or texting REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
