Although I don’t have little children, I have had several people ask why there’s no Easter egg hunt for the children in the various city parks. I told them to contact the city recreation department for information. I decided to call myself and was surprised to find out the annual egg hunts for the city parks were deleted from the recreation department due to budget cuts.
Once again, an annual tradition for the children was cut. What disturbs me is that I have spoke to the recreation department for several years asking if they were all set because the Grange would be happy to assist with the Heights event. I was told that the Grange was not needed.
I spoke to David Gill and expressed my dissatisfaction that no one reached out to Concord Grange, a staple on the Heights for 102 years. I informed him that next year, Concord Grange, formerly known as Pineconia Grange, will organize the event, to be held Saturday, April 15, 2017. The Grange won first place in the state last year for its community service program in Concord. This will be open to Wards 8 and 9 families with children to grade 3.
Please contact me at 496-2917 for more information. Even though I am no longer city councilor for Ward 8, I am still your state representative and care very much about this ward, where I have lived since I was born 63 years ago.
