Councilor Colin Van Ostern’s “no” vote, a vote in the minority at last week’s Governor and Council meeting on whether or not to approve Mount Sunapee Ski Resort expansion, is a vote for the citizens of New Hampshire and our resources.
In voting “no,” Van Ostern demonstrates the kind of leadership that I will look for in our next governor.
This proposed expansion of Mount Sunapee Ski Resort is a bad deal for New Hampshire. I appreciate Van Ostern’s business sense both in analyzing the proposed contract as biased favoring the developers and in voting to block a precedent for the leverage of other New Hampshire public land by developers.
Again, Van Ostern’s leadership, intelligence and integrity have been noticed and appreciated. I am hopeful that Gov. Hassan will also understand the inherent lack of balance in this expansion proposal and block it as have her predecessors, John Lynch and Jeanne Shaheen.
