Let’s be a tax haven

As pointed out in the Monitor article “Latest haven for hidden wealth? The U.S.” (Monitor Nation & World, April 7), the U.S. is emerging as a top tax haven.

States are beginning to compete with foreigners to provide the secrecy they crave. I submit that this is a perfect opportunity for New Hampshire to attract a whole new industry.

Our “live free or die” tradition and the influx of Free Staters could lay the groundwork for making this a reality. In spite of the low tax objective of the industry, it could bring in huge amounts of new revenue. (Nevada gets $110 million in revenue from it, and it supports 1,000 jobs there.)

Things like the “clean,” non-manufacturing aspect of the industry add appeal. Tell you legislators the time to make New Hampshire a tax haven has come.
